Hello, I’m Maxine Howells, founder of Evergreen Leaders and an International Coaching Federation (ICF) Professional Certified Coach (PCC).

I founded Evergreen Leaders to support leaders in developing the clarity, confidence and resilience needed to lead effectively and sustainably. My aim is simple: to help leaders think clearly, navigate complexity and create lasting success for themselves and their organisations. As a coach, I become your thinking partner. As a consultant, I share my experience and wisdom. 

Before becoming a coach, I spent more than 30 years in education, including serving as Headteacher of two schools. Throughout my leadership career, I experienced many of the realities that leaders face every day: balancing competing priorities, leading through change, managing accountability, supporting large and complex teams, and making difficult decisions in demanding environments.

I also understand that leadership can be lonely. Leaders are often expected to have the answers while simultaneously being surrounded by advice, opinions and expectations. For me, coaching provided something different: a trusted space for reflection, honest thinking and challenge. It enabled me to draw on my own strengths, experience and wisdom to find solutions that felt authentic and sustainable.

Becoming a coach was therefore a natural next step. Committed to providing coaching of the highest quality, I completed rigorous International Coaching Federation-accredited training and achieved the Professional Certified Coach (PCC) credential. I am also delighted to be following a Master of Studies (MSt) in Coaching at University of Cambridge, enabling me to further integrate leading-edge research and evidence-based practice into my work.

Alongside coaching, my extensive leadership experience allows me to offer consultancy, training, facilitation and speaking services, particularly within education and leadership development. Whether through coaching, consultancy or professional development, my focus is always on supporting leaders in ways that are practical, meaningful and tailored to their individual context.

At the heart of Evergreen Leaders is a belief that sustainable leadership begins with sustainable people. I believe in seeing people as humans first and professionals second, recognising that wellbeing, relationships and personal values are fundamental to effective leadership.

The name Evergreen Leaders reflects my commitment to growth, resilience and longevity. Like an evergreen tree, strong leadership remains grounded, adaptable and capable of thriving through changing seasons.

When I’m not working with leaders, you’ll often find me outdoors with my horses, Finlay and Jack, and my three dogs, Frankie, Flo and Alfie. Nature provides a constant reminder of the value of patience, balance and sustainable growth—principles that underpin both my life and my work.
